Manage Picture Control on the Nikon Z50II

Simply press the Picture Control button on top of the camera and you can cycle through more than 30 built-in effects, using either the rear screen or EVF, to find the mood you want. An improved user interface also lets you see more of the image as you choose. Picture Controls can be changed in any mode, including Auto, letting the camera do all the hard work while you concentrate on your creativity.

Using Picture Control
  • Simply press the Picture Control button on the top of the camera (see first image)
  • Cycle through the options and press OK to choose (see above video)

If you want to tweak Picture Controls, go ahead! You can make adjustments to any of the pre-loaded controls easily and save as Custom Picture Controls to the camera (see video below).

Create a Custom Picture Control
  • In the Photo Shooting Menu scroll down to Manage Picture Control and press OK
  • Go to Save/Edit and press OK
  • Select a pre-existing Picture Control. Save as ‘C1’ + with your preferred name and select OK
  • Press the shutter button. Use the Picture Control button to select your Custom Picture Control. If saved as C1, C1 will appear on top right of your monitor
  • In Picture Controls, choose C1 and press down on the click wheel to make adjustments
  • You can adjust sharpness, clarity, contrast, brightness, saturation and hue

And that’s not all. The Nikon Z50II also comes with access to Nikon Imaging Cloud, which means you can add imaging recipes to get the exact look you’ve been searching for. There’s a growing bank of recipes from Nikon Creators, while Nikon recipes include 21 types of film negative, eight colour modes and a bleach bypass. Plus, with Nikon Imaging Cloud you can create your own recipes using Nikon’s free editing software, NX Studio. You can create and use as many recipes as you like and store up to nine different ones on your camera at any time. Get started with Nikon Imaging Cloud here.

To make things easier and faster, you can also limit the options you have on the camera by choosing only your favourite Picture Controls to be displayed when photographing.

All the options are available by default, but you can simply uncheck those you choose not to display, as in the video below.

Limit your choices to favourites
  • Press Picture Control (by default all Picture Controls are available)
  • Select the funnel in the top left
  • Cycle through and press OK to uncheck the box on those you don’t want access to when photographing

Picture Control in the Nikon Z50II raises your creativity in an instant and combines it with endless flexibility to create the images you really want, ready to upload. For more on the Nikon Z50II click here.
